MEPC hits the ground running with first sports day for estate’s companies

22 September 2016

Welly wanging, tug ‘o’ war and penalty shoot-outs, plus ‘wheelbarrow’, sack, egg ‘n’ spoon and three-legged races… all were part of the fun and games during a sports day and picnic event for companies based at high-tech engineering business estate Silverstone Park.

The light-hearted event was the latest in a number of informal networking get-togethers that asset manager and developer MEPC organises for companies, their staff and families.

A fish ‘n’ chip van plus ice creams were also brought in to help replenish energy levels!

Teams from MEPC, metrology facility partner Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence, Sales Out, ZetaSafe and the neighbouring Force India Formula One team were among those to get on the leaderboard. Ultimately, though, a totting-up system declared ZetaSafe the winner with its team members each receiving as-tacky-as-you-like commemorative medals.

MEPC’s Roz Bird, Commercial Director for MEPC, commented: “This was our first sports day for companies on site and it’s been an immediate success – so successful in fact that we have decided already this will now be annual event.

“Everybody really got into the spirit of the occasion which was all about having fun.

“It was also great to see so many people – some total strangers – really gelling with one another and relaxing together. This plays a very important part in the community spirit that MEPC is developing among companies at Silverstone Park so as to bring people together and potentially create new opportunities.”

And said ZetaSafe’s Chief Operating Officer Andy Dobbins: “The ‘team’ spirit of ZetaSafe is at the heart of our business and one of the major attractions of Silverstone was the promised active social scene. We have not been disappointed!

“We have found ourselves surrounded by like-minded, exciting businesses and people with the site team working hard to foster links both in a commercial sense and a social sense. This is an important aspect to helping us attract and retain the talented individuals that we need to thrive. After all, who knew we also had winning skills with eggs, spoons wellies and sacks!?”

A quiz night, five-a-side football and a summer barbeque have been among other recent events that make up the busy social calendar for companies on site.

And already the next date in the diary is approaching fast – a coffee and cake morning in the estate’s Innovation Centre on 30 September. This will help raise money for the Macmillan Cancer Support movement (which is holding such events nationwide) and give those staff who enjoy baking an opportunity to bring in home-made treats for others to sample.

On Friday 20 October MEPC will encourage staff on site to take part in the national ‘Wear It Pink Day’ in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Other regular social activities include:

Tuesdays – cycling (mornings)

Wednesday – walks (lunchtimes); Running Club and/or Mountain Biking (evenings)

Thursdays – Fitness Boot Camp (evenings)
