Silverstone Park’s three Formula E teams are this weekend 6,000 miles from home in readiness for the opening race of their new season.
Envision Racing, the newly-branded CUPRA Kiro and Lola Yamaha ABT squads will all be vying for glory in the Sao Paulo ePrix – the opening round of Formula E’s 2024/25 season.
The race can be watched live on ITV4 +1 at 17:30 on Saturday (7 December).
Formula E is the world’s premier, most advanced motor racing championship for 100% electric-powered cars.
All three teams named above have sizeable premises at Silverstone Park.
Envision’s and CUPRA Kiro’s premises house ‘mission control’ centres, enabling staff to link up live with their race teams on the other side of the world during events so as to analyse real time big data and enhance car performance. Envision’s race cars are supplied by Jaguar and CUPRA Kiro’s by Porsche.
Lola, which has partnered with ABT and Yamaha for its first entry into Formula E, designs and builds its own Formula E cars at Silverstone Park.
Between them, these three teams based at the Silverstone Park campus make up more than a quarter of Formula E’s 22-car grid.
Between now and next summer, the teams’ technicians and other staff along with their cars will travel the globe for the 16 races that make up the Formula E schedule.
These include Brazil, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, USA, Monte Carlo, Japan, Shanghai, Indonesia, Germany and finally the UK.
Adding to the technical challenge for the three Silverstone Park teams, Formula E has introduced an all-new GEN3 Evo car of the 2024/25 season that is expected to help the category push new boundaries in the advancements of electric vehicle development.
According to Formula E, the cars are capable of accelerating 30% faster than a Formula 1 car.
