“Employers cannot afford to be complacent,” was the message coming out of Silverstone Park’s latest Silverstone Sessions ‘industry insider’ workshop for occupiers which focused on latest employee rights as well as diversity in the workplace.

The 45-minute session was held inside the striking new Escapade development overlooking the Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit and included a light breakfast and networking for those who attended.

Caroline Robertson, founder of employment law specialist and Park occupier Actif HR, covered new employer-employee legislation in her presentation.

She was joined by Silverstone Technology Cluster member Helen Russell whose Right Track Consultancy helps businesses with apprenticeship strategy and who delved into identifying unconscious bias in the workplace.

Caroline commented: “The raft of changes introduced by the Employment Rights Bill including day-one rights for employees, changes to family friendly entitlements, tightening up of zero hours contracts, as well as the new preventative duty on employers to deal with sexual harassment in the workplace will significantly impact the way employers manage their recruitment and retention of staff.

The Silverstone Sessions events are free for Silverstone Park occupiers and and provide added value by giving them access to sought-after industry insiders who share specialist knowledge about topics that are relevant to their businesses.

The insiders can also be Park occupiers, giving them an opportunity to promote their business to neighbouring companies at the campus.

The opening two Sessions, held inside Silverstone Park’s Innovation Centre, had delved into corporate promotional movie making and cyber security.
