Work to complete The Silverstone Experience Centre – highly visible to Silverstone Park visitors – continues at a rapid pace.
The Experience will take visitors on an exciting journey through the past, present and future of British motor sport using latest engineering, electrical and AV techniques.
The building being used to create the attraction is a refurbished World War II aircraft hangar, located by the neighbouring Silverstone Circuit’s entrance close to Silverstone Park’s Innovation Centre.
HRH Prince Harry is set to officially open the building when it is completed in spring 2019 having visited last March to launch the project…
Sally Reynolds, Chief Executive of Silverstone Heritage which is behind the project, explained:
“The hangar is in the process of being fully refurbished and a new two-storey glazed extension is being added – the steelworks of which are already in situ.
“A new mezzanine floor will be installed throughout the building and the slabs for this have been installed. Over the next three months we will start to see the cladding and roof being put in place.”
Significantly, as highlighted during Prince Harry’s March visit, the project will also complement Silverstone Park’s own contribution to the skills agenda by raising awareness of careers in engineering for youngsters – particularly through its connections to motorsport.
Sally added: “We will use the technical heritage of British motor racing to inspire high performance engineers of the future and the project team is working closely with the Silverstone University Technical College on initiatives to support this.
“State of the art interactive displays will be used to tell fascinating stories of human endeavour, great sporting rivalries and engineering innovation.”
The Experience’s recent progress follows news that Hilton is to construct a 197 guest room hotel at Silverstone Circuit by 2020 (connected via footbridge to the venue’s iconic Wing building).
Legendary sportscar manufacturer Aston Martin is also expected to open a new major test and development facility within the circuit this month.
Sally continued: “It is clear that the venue is becoming so much more than just a race circuit. The Silverstone brand is strong and with its geographical location and superb transport networks it is no surprise that the venue is attracting so many exciting new developments.
“We are delighted that The Silverstone Experience is part of this growth and we hope many of the Silverstone Park visitors will take the time to enjoy a trip to The Silverstone Experience in 2019.”
