Silverstone Park developer MEPC’s pilot schools project ‘Inspiration for Innovation’ has moved on another step following a training and support session with more than 20 business volunteers.
Launched in July, Inspiration for Innovation aims to help young people achieve higher level skills and better careers through greater engagement with local employers.
Gaia Innovation, appointed by MEPC to manage the programme, discussed ‘next moves’ with the businesses which have volunteered to take part at a coaching workshop event held at Silverstone Park.
The training session with the business representatives enabled the Gaia team to learn more about the types of interactive activities each volunteer would be comfortable with, working in the three partner schools – Kingsthorpe College in Northampton, Buckingham School and Silverstone University Technology College (UTC) – and to provide tips on how to make the interaction both meaningful for the students and enjoyable for the volunteer.
The Gaia team is expert in running employer outreach projects that engage with schools and inspire youngsters to equip themselves with the right skills for future employment.
Gaia Chief Executive Julia Muir (pictured right) said: “It was a great pleasure to get to know the MEPC Silverstone Park Inspiration for Innovation programme volunteers, and see their enthusiasm for the project.
“It is clear that they are committed to helping the partner schools inspire and inform their students. They will be fantastic ‘real models’, able to share their personal stories and motivate the youngsters to aim high and work hard to succeed.
“With their support, we hope the children will not only aspire to achieve great things, but will learn how to make the right choices and do the right things to enable them to progress to their best possible employment destination.”
