Park’s engineering businesses to provide apprenticeships with government Kickstart Scheme

11 February 2021

Four companies based at Silverstone Park are amongst 19 in total that will be able to offer some 30 young people apprenticeships thanks to a successful bid by the Silverstone Technology Cluster (STC) to join the government’s Kickstart Scheme.

The bid, made by the STC (of which Silverstone Park is a founding member), was approved by the Department for Work & Pensions and grants the Cluster organisation the all-important ‘Kickstart Gateway’ status.

Silverstone Park-based Performance Projects (engineering consultancy), PUNCH Flybrid (hybrid flywheel technology), Delta (high performance battery systems) and KW Special Projects (behind the soon-to-open Digital Manufacturing Centre) are among the 19 business involved. All are members of the STC…

The Kickstart Scheme will provide each with funding for 25 hours of employment per week, plus additional funds for training.

“This is another exciting development for our membership and again shows the regard in which the government holds their skills and capabilities as a true contributor to both the local and UK economies,” enthused STC CEO Pim van Baarsen.

“This gives 30 young people from the region each an incredible opportunity – to gain invaluable experience with some of the most innovative high-tech businesses in the country.

“In turn, this can give many of them the boost they need in terms of gaining skills that then help take them to the next stage of a career.

“An important part of the criteria is also that employers provide them with the crucial basic skills training, such as time-keeping, application and paperwork, such as CVs.

“I’d like to say ‘thank you’ to all those members who have offered to invest their time and energy to train up these young people – I am sure they also stand to benefit from the experience.”

The news comes soon after the STC was selected to become a national Trailblazer Project for the government-backed business advice network Be The Business…
