Young south Northants carer Ashley Lowe got the surprise – and ride – of a lifetime when he was treated to a full day’s driving experience around Silverstone circuit by Silverstone Park’s Commercial Director Roz Bird.

Roz had won the experience at South Northamptonshire Council’s Innovation & Investment Conference after being judged the event’s top networker.

But explained Roz: “Silverstone Park developer MEPC wants to be a force for good in the local community and this was a perfect opportunity to put something back into it – why not donate an experience like this to someone who really deserved a treat?

“We were delighted to offer the prize to Ashley when we learnt of his story – he is a real inspiration for young people and a credit to the community.”

Remarkably, 23-year-old Ashley has been carer to his mum Tracy at their home in Towcester since he was just six years old – she suffers from chronic arthritis.

Tracy was proudly able to accompany Ashley as he took up his prize which included a snazzy lunch in the British Racing Drivers’ Club’s iconic clubhouse. On track, he lapped up the thrill of Silverstone Driving Experience’s high performance cars which include Aston Martins, BMWs, Ferraris and Caterhams.

Ashley said: “I was shocked to receive such a prize and I enjoyed the day thoroughly, from the moment I stepped foot in the BRDC to winning the best team award. My favourite experience had to be the Ferrari closely followed by the Caterham.”
