Silverstone Park facilities enable Niche Vehicle Network’s virtual Symposium
21 September 2020
Popular automotive industry organisation the Niche Vehicle Network (NVN) took advantage of spacious meeting rooms and ultra-fast broadband connection at Silverstone Park to host its 2020 Symposium, online, for member businesses.
The Symposium, held inside the Park’s specialist Metrology Facility, managed by Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence, presented four virtual sessions to over 160 member businesses that tuned in over Zoom.
The metrology facility, based in the Silverstone Park Innovation Centre, enabled social distancing between NVN staff, plus access to AV equipment, refreshments, a break-out area and resilient ultra-fast fibre internet speeds to ensure uninterrupted live-streaming.
MEPC has recently upgraded its fibre network, managed by Bridge Fibre, in order to reach businesses right across Silverstone Park as the site evolves.
The Niche Vehicle Network (NVN) is an independent network of over 1500 UK manufacturers and specialist technology organisations active in the niche vehicle sector.
Supported by Innovate UK, the Office for Low Emission Vehicles and the Advanced Propulsion Centre, NVN provides a collaborative R&D programme for innovative, SME-led projects focusing on developing and demonstrating low carbon vehicle technologies in niche vehicle applications, with an emphasis on electrification, zero emissions and light-weighting.
The annual NVN Symposium, which usually takes place at the Telford International Centre, brings project collaborators and niche vehicle businesses and experts together to consider trends in the industry, and hear from government ministers and industry leaders….
NVN Progamme Director, Dr Viv Stephens, commented: “Running a virtual event can be difficult, but having an operation centre here at Silverstone Park for the day has actually made this a really slick operation for our core team.
“The Silverstone Park name always attracts an audience and the people from MEPC and Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence (which operates the Metrology Facility) have, as ever, been very helpful.
“It’s a great set-up, the facilities are top notch and social distancing is enforced, making it the ideal place at a time when more and more industry events are being hosted virtually.”

Notably, this was the sixth consecutive year the NVN has hosted one of its premier events with Silverstone Park – since 2014 its annual Forum has been staged in the neighbouring University Technology College, sponsored by MEPC Silverstone Park.
