In summer 2016 MEPC, the asset manager and developer of Silverstone Park, proudly published a highly detailed report by SQW into the evolution of a cluster of high-tech engineering within a one-hour radius of Silverstone.
The Cluster has quickly been backed by the UK Government and highlights a market of untapped potential. Its growth will strengthen the UK’s position as a world-leading knowledge economy.
Ultimately the report revealed evidence of the Cluster’s dynamics as well as the beneficial interactions between its high-tech firms in terms of supply chain activity, business development opportunities and the movement of people between companies.
A new company, Silverstone Technology Cluster (STC), has since been launched to help match investors with untapped high-tech engineering firms.
At the start of 2020, STC membership totalled 120 businesses. The STC also runs a busy membership-led events calendar; for its five special interest groups (SIGs), a new business growth programme and its Annual Conference. Since 2018 it has hosted the VIP Lounge at the UK’s largest event for high-tech businesses, the Advanced Engineering Show. All this activity and more (it co-hosts events with senior industry and govt/policy bodies as well) adds to its credentials and purpose of promotion, support and thought leadership…
The Silverstone Technology Cluster report was the culmination of eight months’ intense work by SQW – the highly respected economic and social development research specialist whose findings first brought the ‘Cambridge Phenomenon’ to public attention.
The founding members of the Silverstone Technology Cluster are Aylesbury Vale District Council; Barclays; Cherwell District Council; EMW Law LLP; Grant Thornton UK LLP; Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence; MEPC and South Northants Council.
KW Special Projects Ltd and TotalSim Ltd join the above companies to complete the board.
