Silverstone Park based business occupiers Enovation Ltd and PUNCH Flybrid helped raise awareness of careers in motorsport for hundreds more schoolgirls in the run-up to the Formula 1 British Grand Prix at Silverstone in their role as appointed STEM partners to the Girls on Track UK programme.

Girls between the ages of 8 and 11 attended Girls on Track activity days at Cosworth in Northampton and then at the Silverstone Interactive Museum, adjacent to Silverstone Park and the Silverstone Circuit which hosted the Grand Prix.

During the activity days, Enovation and PUNCH Flybrid taught the girls coding skills using specialist LEGO™ sets. Other activities included a pit stop challenge, first aid and media presentations.

These were the latest events staged by Girls on Track UK which is managed by UK motorsport’s governing body, Motorsport UK.

Dr Cristiana Pace, Founder and Director of Enovation Consulting, said:

“Inspiring the next generation is a core part of our mission and initiatives like these can make such a difference to the future aspirations of young girls; watching them take up the sessions with such enthusiasm has been hugely rewarding for our team.”

PUNCH Flybrid’s Sales Coordinator Claire Waterson added:

“We love supporting this programme; we know how important it is for girls to have access to days like this and to be encouraged to believe they can be and do anything.

“Unfortunately, girls are still hugely under-represented in motorsport and engineering so we like to do everything we can to redress that balance.

“This is a great way for girls to be surrounded by positive role models and to understand that there is something for everyone and that girls have a place within all industries.”

Jenny Fetcher, Programme Manager for Girls on Track UK, commented:

“Bringing a hands-on, practical engineering challenge in the form of a LEGO™ coding challenge was a great addition to the day.

“The girls had the chance to work with experts from PUNCH Flybrid and Enovation who worked with groups of girls to collaboratively build, code and race mini-Formula 1 cars, which kept them enthralled and engaged for the full 45 minutes.”
