MEPC has invested in a significantly more sustainable heating and cooling system inside its Silverstone Park Innovation Centre.
The upgrade utilises existing pipework, radiators and cooling units but the generation of warm and cool air, plus hot water is now powered by electricity rather than gas.
Silverstone Park Commercial Director, MEPC’s Chris Kimber-Nickelson, explained: “You could call it an ‘upcycling’ project – making use of a perfectly fine platform that already exists but doing away with fossil fuels to power it.
“The gas boilers have been removed and the Innovation Centre is now electrically driven – and using renewable electricity.
“In carrying out this work, we’ve taken the opportunity to install high efficiency air source heat pumps.”
These works mark the latest investment by MEPC in its Innovation Centre which provides contemporary office and meeting room space for business occupiers.
The largest two of its four meeting rooms – International and National – have recently received a facelift with the addition of new colourful, more comfortable chairs around their boardroom-size tables.
To the exterior, a seating/picnic area for occupiers has been enhanced with the installation of a stylish red canopy which provides shelter from the elements for those wishing to meet or relax outdoors.
The heating and works add to Silverstone Park’s sustainability credentials. Industrial properties constructed by MEPC at the technology business estate always aim to meet a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating.
Elsewhere, an electric bicycle hire system has been launched for individuals to move about the site and the Park has also adopted the Kinto ‘car share’ scheme to help encourage employees to reduce congestion, costs and emissions during their work journeys.
