Hidden manufacturing and management talents begin to flourish

Continuing our International Women’s Day interviews, this time we catch up with Henrietta Gergely from Hungary.

After quickly settling into her role as a production operative at niche cable and wiring harness manufacturer Nicab, a management role now potentially beckons…

“I’m actually from Romania – my family lives there but I moved to the UK about five years ago with my partner,” says Henrietta, 26.

“I started working in Romania when I was 18 but didn’t have any real thoughts about what type of work I might like to do.

“I was working in offices and continued that type of work when I arrived in the UK but then a chance with Nicab came up through an agency six months ago.

“I came here just to see if I could manage myself with no skills like this at all. Everything was so new for me.

It seems Henrietta is blessed with a creative, practical mind – she also plays the guitar and hand pan (similar to a steel drum).

Nicab MD Nick Locke adds: “We’re actually giving Henrietta an opportunity to join the management team.

“She’s shown she really has good skills in terms of production, but we’ve also identified really good soft skills in her that we could use around helping the production manager, whether that’s running teams or scheduling production.

“As a company, if we see that in people we want to help them develop that and not let that person just stay where they are – variety is important and leads to greater productivity.”

Henrietta continues: “I’m not so keen on working in an office and talking to strangers, probably because my English vocabulary is improving!

“Communicating with my team I’m comfortable with but not so much strangers.”

“I enjoy very much being here and would like to stay with Nicab. It’s been the best management of a company I’ve experience so far.”
