Dumarey Green Power, an innovator in high powered cleantech systems, has successfully installed its latest pioneering product into a construction industry setting from its premises at Silverstone Park.
The company’s Revolution Battery – a battery energy storage system (BESS) – is now powering Falcon Tower cranes on a sizeable Bowmer + Kirland construction site in Nottingham.
It replaces the use of diesel generators and on the Nottingham site alone is expected to save 800 litres of fuel and over two tonnes of CO2 emissions per week.
Its design incorporates a battery pack which can deliver high amounts of power from a comparatively small amount of energy storage. This results in a smaller battery system with much reduced use of battery cells, higher efficiency and lower embedded emissions.
The system is manufactured inside Dumarey Green Power’s industrial premises at Silverstone Park. The company utilises local labour & suppliers as well to help minimise transport emissions in the large UK construction market.
In the last several years, the company has deployed 250 of its highly durable, flywheel energy storage systems into different industrial applications. These have saved in excess of 6.5 million litres of fuel and over 20,000 tonnes of CO2.
Jon Drakeley, Product Director of Dumarey Green Power, commented: “Our new Revolution Battery allows even the heaviest tower cranes in the country to be powered from just a 32A mains supply. Revolution Battery will play a significant part in reducing the use of generators, avoiding wasted emissions & fuel usage.
“Our partnership with Falcon Tower Crane and Bowmer + Kirkland saw the first battery units go directly from the factory to a customer site, where they were quickly installed to cut both emissions and save money running the tower cranes.”
Rupert Cook, Associate Service Director at Falcon Tower Crane Services Ltd, added: “Our new fleet of Revolution Batteries allows us to power large cranes from a small power supply.
“Early testing has shown we can run three cranes from a single system.
“The system is smaller than one of our large generators and installation can be done in just moments, making it ideal for busy sites where space and time are at a premium.
Dave Shooter, Lifting Manager at Bowmer + Kirkland emphasised the important of decarbonisation in lifting operations. “In 2022 we won two categories at the British Construction Industry Awards using flywheel technology developed by Dumarey Green Power – Net Zero Carbon Initiative of the Year and the overall Initiative of the Year.
