Wave of Light: Silverstone Park and Circuit come together for Baby Loss Awareness Week

  • Teams from across Silverstone Park are coming together to take on a 5K run around the iconic Grand Prix Circuit
  • The event will raise vital funds for Tommy’s, the UK’s leading pregnancy and baby charity, and drive awareness ahead of Baby Loss Awareness Week (9-15 October)
  • The run will also highlight the Global Wave of Light on 15 October, supported by Sands, shining a light on pregnancy and baby loss and bringing the conversation out of the shadows

Silverstone Park’s Women’s Innovation Network (WIN) and its supporters have teamed up with Silverstone Circuit, to host the ‘WIN – Wave of Light’ Run on Friday 10 October 2025 during Baby Loss Awareness Week – shining a light on a deeply personal and often taboo issue: pregnancy and baby loss.

The 5K run around the Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit will raise funds for Tommy’s, the UK’s leading pregnancy research charity, and also awareness for Sands, the charity saving babies’ lives and supporting bereaved families.

At Silverstone Park – a hub of 90 innovative businesses supporting nearly 4,000 staff – WIN is using the visibility of the iconic Silverstone Circuit to start important conversations about a topic that affects thousands of parents and families every year in the UK.

Pregnancy and baby loss can be incredibly isolating, especially in professional environments where discussion is rare. By talking openly and raising awareness, businesses can create meaningful support networks and a culture where no one has to face this alone.

Chantal-Lawren Welch, Marketing Manager at Silverstone Park and founder of WIN, commented: “Having personally experienced losing my son at full term, I know how profound the mental, emotional and physical impact can be. As a community of innovators and industry leaders, we have a unique opportunity to use our collective voice and platform to break the silence around baby loss, particularly during Baby Loss Awareness Week.

“Silverstone Circuit, with its world-famous reputation, provides a remarkable backdrop for this cause. I’m incredibly proud of the teams from across our business community who are coming together for this intimate yet meaningful 5K event. It’s a chance to show solidarity, spark conversation and reflection, support families and highlight the critical importance of awareness and action to help prevent future losses.”

 

The Scale of Pregnancy and Baby Loss

  • Every day in the UK, 13 babies die shortly before, during or soon after birth. At least 1 in 6 pregnancies end in miscarriage. (Source: Sands)
  • The rates are higher still for babies of Black and South Asian ethnicity and for babies whose families live in the more deprived areas of the UK. (Source: MBRRACE-UK).
  • Data from 2022–23 shows that over 800 babies may have been saved with better care in that year alone. (Source: Sands & Tommy’s Joint Policy Unit)
  • Across the UK, half of all adults have either experienced pregnancy or baby loss themselves or know someone who has. (Source: Sands)
