The former Secretary of State for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS), Andrea Leadsom, has praised the “brilliant innovation” among companies at Silverstone Park which she also described as an “engineering super force”.

The MP for South Northants, now Chair of the 1922 BEIS Backbench Committee, was asked to give her views on MEPC’s development of Silverstone Park since it took over management of the estate in autumn 2013.

Andrea commented:

“It’s incredibly impressive.

“But actually, when you get under the skin, Silverstone (Park) is an engineering super force here in the East Midlands.

“It is something we can all be proud of.

“There’s brilliant innovation coming out of here and I think there’s enormous wealth and jobs and opportunities being created.”

Mrs Leadsom was speaking during a visit to Silverstone Park business Performance Projects where she learnt more about its new ‘GoFAR’ rover which is initially being targeted at the agricultural sector.

Since 2013, under MEPC management, the number of businesses on at Silverstone Park has grown from around 50 to more than 90 as the company has embarked on the construction of three high profile schemes which alone have added more than 640,000 sq ft of industrial property at the estate.

These properties have swiftly been occupied by some of the most exciting future tech companies in the UK.

Specialising in advanced engineering, manufacturing, electronics and software development, they are at the forefront of innovation in sectors such as aerospace, agri-tech, automotive, defence, marine, med-tech, motorsport (including F1) and space.
