The world famous Silverstone circuit which sits next to the high-tech Silverstone Park business estate is set for arguably its most memorable season of international motorsport in 2018.
For the very first time, in May, Silverstone will host a round of the FIA World Rallycross Championship as part of an all-new live music/street food festival, Speed Machine.
The track being used is purpose built for rallycross – adding to Silverstone’s numerous circuit configurations which make it the ultimate test bed facility. It was christened in March by the British Rallycross Championship when guesting World Rally megastar Sebastien Loeb took a win for Peugeot (pictured).
In July, Silverstone will host Formula 1’s British Grand Prix and the world’s biggest historic motorsport weekend, the Silverstone Classic, plus, in August, both the FIA World Endurance Championship and MotoGP.
A number of these events have significance for companies based at Silverstone Park or within the surrounding Silverstone Technology Cluster with many forming part of the high-tech engineering and manufacturing supply chain that is crucial to the teams competing at motorsport’s highest levels.
For example, F1 teams Mercedes (Brackley), Red Bull (Milton Keynes), Renault (Enstone), Haas (Banbury) and Force India (Silverstone) are all located in the STC. Likewise, WEC outfit Manor (Silverstone Park) and the UK headquarters of motorcyling giants Ducati and KTM – both competing in MotoGP – are all located at the estate.
