Record equalling turn-out as occupiers’ summer BBQ returns

14 July 2022

A record equalling 300 staff from businesses at Silverstone Park attended developer MEPC’s first summer BBQ for occupiers in three years.

The BBQ had become a popular annual fixture on the Park’s social events calendar since MEPC took over management of the estate in autumn 2013.

However, the Covid pandemic forced its cancellation in both 2020 and 2021.

But with Covid restrictions having since eased, the BBQ was back on the calendar for 2022 and occupiers and their staff turned out in huge numbers for the event, held on the Silverstone UTC’s terrace overlooking the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit.

Attendance equalled that of 2019’s event and it is estimated that some 1,200 burgers, hotdogs, desserts (popcorn or ice-cream) and soft drinks were consumed.

Those attending were also treated to live music from a calypso steel band and a magic mirror photoshoot.

The BBQ is part of the calendar of popular social activities that MEPC arranges for occupiers to promote informal gatherings and a sense of community amongst businesses.

This summer has also seen the return of quiz nights for occupiers with an event in Silverstone village’s White Horse pub.

On-going each Wednesday evening are five-a-side football sessions at the Silverstone UTC.

Meanwhile, MEPC has added to occupiers’ lunchtime options by arranging visits from mobile Gurkha street food and fish and chip units.

Silverstone Park Occupier Liaison & Events Co-ordinator Kiely Nichols commented: “It was terrific to see so many occupiers and their staff back at our BBQ for them – the sunshine added to the very pleasant atmosphere, and thank you to Silverstone UTC for hosting us once more.

“Fun events like these play an important part in building community spirit at Silverstone Park.

“They support our occupiers by helping them to attract and retain the best staff, and enable them to bump into neighbouring businesses to chat over ideas and opportunities in an informal and relaxed setting.

“We very much look forward to welcoming occupiers and their staff to our events throughout the rest of 2022.”
