Sistem Technology Ltd believes its recent move to Silverstone Park will contribute to its growth and reputation as one of Europe’s leading suppliers of advanced process and automation equipment for the semiconductor (or microchip) market.

The business, formed in 2011, has located to modern office space inside the Park’s Innovation Centre where a ten-strong team focuses on sales and distribution of cutting-edge equipment that processes silicon wafers from which microchips are made.

“Our USP is our broad range of products,” explained Managing Director and founder, Chris Ridge.

“For university or commercial laboratories, we can supply entry level equipment for R&D, or for start-up companies who want to grow to the next level.

“We also work with SMEs and Europe’s top semiconductor factories to supply the latest range of automated handling equipment for integration with their advanced process tools.”

Sistem’s network of suppliers extends to the top names in manufacturing equipment in Asia, Europe, Canada and the USA. The business also provides training and after-sales services following the demand of the booming semiconductor market.

Chris said: “The manufacturing of semiconductors continues to grow in areas like computing and data storage, wireless comms and 5G, automotive electronics and industrial and consumer electronics – ‘chips are in everything, in the home and the factory…

“If you think there are 600-800 ‘chips in ICE (internal combustion-engine) vehicles, we now see 1,600 ‘chips per EV and about 3,000 in a ‘smart car’.

“Semiconductors is predicted to become a trillion-dollar industry by 2030 and be worth 900bn by 2028.”

Sistem Technology is planning to expand its services in line with the European Chips Act – legislation that has been introduced to help prevent a repeat of the sudden shortage of semi-conductors to the continent from manufacturers elsewhere in the world during the Covid pandemic.

“We are trying to keep pace with the need for support across different sectors and also capitalise on new sales opportunities.

“Serving the semiconductor industry has always been major driver for us but more recently we’ve also engaged with other sectors such as space, medical and pharmaceutical, advanced optics and security services – all opportunities for growth.

“We’re working hard on our marketing, a new website, social media interaction and active sales. Certainly. Following steady growth in the last three years, we are now looking to extend into other markets.”

He added: “Our move to Silverstone Park has been welcomed by our staff. It gives us more room and we enjoy the history and excitement of this iconic location. Our suppliers are also excited by our move here as many are motorsport fans…”
